OUR INSTRUCTORS

Amy Meadow has a BA in animation and illustration from Columbia College in Chicago as well as her teaching certification in art education from San Francisco State University. She has taught art from K-12 throughout the Bay Area and Santa Cruz, California. Amy is also a published children’s book illustrator, jewelry designer, painter, and dabbler in anything artistic and/or crafty.

Anne Rustand graduated from Willamette University in 2000 with a BA in Humanities and French. She got her Masters in Teacher Education from Eastern in 2002. She currently teaches in the Redmond School District and is a member of the Clay Guild.

Cindy Briggs has a BA in Communications Design and been an art director, professional artist and teacher for over 25 years.  An international workshop instructor, award-winning signature member of the NorthWest Watercolor Society, and author, Briggs co-authored "Make Every Day a Painting"  - a watercolor manual for painting in the studio and on location. She is known for her dramatic ethereal sundrenched watercolors and painting tours in Europe. 

David Kinker is a local artist and muralist perhaps best known for his art-deco murals in the Tower Theater in Bend. His murals also grace the walls of the Deschutes Brewery pub and St. Francis School as well as numerous businesses and homes in Central Oregon. Visit www.kinker.com.

Deb Sether’s passion for clay has kept her hands "dirty" for over 25 years. She works professionally as a ceramic sculpturist in large scale garden and wall pieces.  Her work is shown in galleries around the state. Deb has taught clay to over 1,500 children through the "artist in schools" program in the last five years.  Her work can be viewed at www.debsether.com.

Helen Bommarito received her BA in Art from the University of Washington in Seattle, and did two years of postgraduate study in ceramics and photography at the University of Texas at Austin. She is active in Clay Guild of the Cascades and is a studio member of Cindercone Clay Co-op.

D. Jacqueline Newbold enjoys painting, making jewelry and sharing her talents by teaching privately in her Art in My Heart studio as well as for the Art Station. She loves to travel and look for components for her jewelry and inspirations for her paintings.

Jamie Chapman graduated from the University of Wyoming with a BS degree in K-12 Art Education, and a BFA in Studio Art. Jamie has a multidisciplinary approach to art education, stemming from her expertise in educational arts programming for museums and art centers in Wyoming and Oregon.

Janet Matson has over 30 years experience as an elementary teacher and art educator. She earned a BA from Marylhurst University and a MA from Portland State University. She is a potter and printmaker and a member of Cindercone Clay Co-op.

Karen Z. Ellis is an artist/naturalist known for her intaglio prints and paintings. Her works reflect the sense of wonder, joy and beauty she finds in nature. Katherine Taylor is a professional artist and educator. Her oil paintings are characterized by a soft, romantic style, using clean colors and loose brushstrokes. Kelsey Crawford, raised in Montana and Hawai'i, received her BFA in Printmaking and BA in Creative Writing from the University of Montana.  She is passionate about encouraging multidimensional outlets for creative thinking, between visual and verbal language, printmaking, drawing, and poetry.

Kinley Sbandati has a BFA from Maryland Institute of Art. Kinley has managed and taught a fine art program in Florence, Italy for children and adults. A portrait artist, naturalistic painter and children’s book illustrator, Kinley uses soft pastel and oil in her work.

Pam Jersey Bird earned a BA in art education and has a teaching certificate. She has over 30 years teaching experience, including schools in Sisters, Bend, and through Art Central’s Artists in Schools Residency Program. She creates nature-inspired mixed media abstract painting and is currently represented by Tumalo Art Company in Bend.

Patti Calande is a local designer of jewelry and garden art, and has sold her pieces throughout the Pacific Northwest. She is constantly learning new and exciting techniques to add to her repertoire of metalsmithing and PMC work. She enjoys sharing her knowledge and the infectious enthusiasm of the classroom. Paula Bullwinkel is excited about having just completed her master’s in art education. Painting is her focus, and she has participated in numerous one-woman and group shows. For 18 years, she was a professional fashion and portrait photographer for magazines in NYC and London. Paula is also a member of the Cindercone Clay Co-op.

Rita Dunlavy was educated in the world of finance but found her balance and creative outlet in the many facets of mosaics. She taught a small group of fellow enthusiasts in Southern California, produced some commissioned pieces and regularly sold her work in the Art Fairs around the area. She is a member of The Society of American Mosaic Artists.

Shanda Pickhardt graduated from Plymouth State University with a BS degree in Art Education and a minor in ceramics. She is a certified art teacher for grades K-12. She specializes in art instruction which focuses on a multidisciplinary curriculum.

Sondra Holtzman is a record-keeper of an evolving life; her journals and sketchbooks are an eclectic mix of prose, illustration and ephemera. Collage illustration is a specialty where each assemblage is hand-built, making use of eclectic materials to give the artwork a striking, unique feel.

Steve Provence is a local potter whose work can be found in a number of local galleries. He received a degree in Studio Art from Western State College and has taught Ceramics at several Art Centers. Visit www.stevenprovencepottery.com

Vicki Shuck has a BA from OSU with an emphasis on painting and drawing and has taught K–college-level classes as well as worked for the Artist in the Schools program. Believing that it is not only enriching, but critical, for each person to live and work creatively, Vicki pursues teaching and her own artwork with enthusiasm.

Wendy White has been teaching basketry for over 20 years.  She has worked with children in the Artist in Residency program and through COCC to teach adults. All baskets begin with similar materials and each basket becomes an expression of the individual. Creating over 2000 baskets, rarely the same, she runs her basketry business Teaka-Bay Baskets and Crafts.
